KENT, WA, April 24, 2019:
A director with Transformative Wave, a leading innovator in HVAC energy efficiency and building automation solutions, was elected to lead a nonprofit group focused on advancing energy efficiency across the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) industry.

Joe Schmutzler, Transformative Wave’s director of utility programs, was elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Western HVAC Performance Alliance, Inc., also known as WHPA. WHPA is a California public benefit nonprofit corporation ([501(c)3 status pending] public charity) providing its members a voice in regulations and laws affecting the HVACR industry. Prior to his election as chair, Schmutzler was WHPA’s treasurer for the past 18 months.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to represent Transformative Wave and our entire industry as a voice for HVACR efficiency and quality energy management,” Schmutzler said. “To that end, we will work to be an even more effective advocate for responsible policy as it relates to our industry, providing insight and expertise while answering questions from policymakers who govern the industry.”

Schmutzler said he would be seeking industry members to participate in WHPA’s new committees. “The goal is to get more professionals involved in the organization, providing opportunities for industry leaders to sit down with California energy utilities, the California Energy Commission, and California Public Utility Commission staff members,” he said.

“Working together, we can create regulatory framework that is good for consumers and businesses while being responsible stewards of the environment. The opportunity to enhance industry advocacy and strengthen communications among industry stakeholders is why I am so excited about this opportunity.”

Schmutzler has been with Transformative Wave since 2015. Prior to joining the organization, he spent seven years at Puget Sound Energy as the commercial program manager in business energy management. He is a Six Sigma trained professional, as well as a certified energy manager (CEM), a certified measurement and verification professional (CMVP), and a LEED AP signifying expertise in green building and a LEED rating system.
